Description
Crafted from premium diatomite excavated from Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, this Shichirin grill stands out for its exceptional quality and performance. Renowned for its superior heat-insulation properties, the grill ensures charcoal lights quickly and burns longer than conventional cookers, making it ideal for enjoying BBQ indoors.
For optimal use, less than half the amount of charcoal is needed due to its excellent thermal insulation. Safety is paramount—never use charcoal in enclosed areas as it can emit carbon monoxide. Handle the grill with care, allowing it to cool naturally before cleaning with a damp cloth. Store it in a dry and ventilated area to maintain its quality.
The Kaginushi family, originally fishermen, started making barbecues from diatomaceous earth during the off-season. Founded in 1932, their company initially produced traditional bricks and tiles. By 1953, they specialized in diatomaceous earth bricks in Suzu, evolving into Kaginushi Industry Co., LTD in 1961, focusing on refractory insulation bricks, diatomaceous earth products, and Noto tiles.
Maintenance tips
To ensure the longevity of your cutting board, we recommend regular maintenance with food-grade mineral oil and beeswax .
- Beeswax : As a preventative measure, apply a thin layer to the surface of the board. Let it soak in for a few hours, then remove the excess with a paper towel. Make sure to use a food-safe beeswax.
- Mineral Oil : As soon as the board shows signs of dryness, generously apply neutral mineral oil. Allow to absorb and reapply if necessary until completely absorbed. Then wipe off any excess. The oil must be food-grade.
- Occasional sanding : Once or twice a year, hand sand with 400-600 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface and close the pores of the wood. Then apply a new coat of beeswax to protect the board.
