This Hitohira cutting board is made from hinoki wood (Japanese cypress), known for its lightness and gentleness on Japanese knife blades. Measuring 360 × 200 × 13 mm, it is suitable for small kitchens while offering sufficient surface area for everyday food preparation. Its rosewood base features a rotating stand, allowing for convenient and even vertical drying.

Hinoki is a soft wood that absorbs less odors and is particularly gentle on knife blades, unlike bamboo or hardwood cutting boards with a side grain. This material is appreciated by professionals and cooking enthusiasts for extending the life of knives, especially thin, sharp blades. The discreet signature engraved in the corner of the board highlights its authenticity and Japanese craftsmanship.

For an optimal experience, it is recommended to slightly moisten the surface before use in order to close the pores of the wood and limit the adhesion of strong odors such as garlic or onion. Avoid using serrated knives, which can easily mark the surface. Special care must be taken with maintenance: oil regularly, do not put in the dishwasher, and use a non-slip mat to stabilize the board on the work surface.

Maintenance tips

Have it sharpened on a water stone by a professional every year. Store in a dry place. Wash immediately after use and dry completely before storing. Do not let soak. Not dishwasher safe.

Product notes

Please note that each handle is unique and may have distinct variations, such as differences in shades or colors in the buffalo horn, which is part of its authentic and handcrafted character.

Guarantee

Every knife carries a lifetime warranty against obvious manufacturing issues. For example, if the handle peels or cracks after a few weeks of proper use. Or if the blade develops a crack from the edge to the spine. These issues are rare, but can occur. In such cases, you will be offered an exchange for the same product or a refund. Since each case is different, it is at our discretion to assess whether our lifetime warranty against obvious manufacturing issues applies.
