This knife sharpening leather block is used to maintain the edge between sessions on a whetstone. By straightening out micro-deformations on the cutting edge, it prolongs its sharpness and extends the time between sharpenings. It is suitable for most Japanese blades, single or double bevel. Sharpening on leather remains a maintenance step, performed flat and without excessive pressure: it complements the work of the stone, but in no way replaces it.

Parfaitement adéquat pour la finition lors d’un eguisage
Je l'utilise au minimum une fois par semaine, prolonge le tranchant de ma lame et évite les aller-retours chez dans un aiguisoir
Ideal i strongly recommend
Super contente de mon achat et service impeccable, je ne peux que recommander
Get this thing to get your knife a proper cutting line
Lay the blade flat on the leather, then slightly raise the spine until you reach the bevel angle. Then pull the blade, cutting towards the back, as if you were stroking the leather: avoid pushing the edge against the leather, at the risk of nicking it. Make a few light passes on each side, alternating. About ten passes are generally enough to sharpen an edge that is starting to lose its bite, without removing metal from the cutting edge or changing its angle.
It is not mandatory. Used bare, the leather gently straightens the edge and is suitable for regular maintenance. Loaded with fine compound, it becomes slightly abrasive and polishes the edge further, which can be useful after a finishing stone. To start, using bare leather remains the simplest and safest option while you master the angle. In any case, keep a light pressure to avoid rounding the knife's edge.
