The HI-CONDITION 9-Pocket Roll is a carrying case for Japanese knives designed in Tokyo by Yuji Osada. Made of green hanpu canvas with a natural canvas interior, it allows you to organize up to nine knives or kitchen tools thanks to individually sewn compartments. The rolled-up design remains compact, making it convenient for travel between home, the workshop, cooking school, or work.
HI-CONDITION is based in Asakusabashi, in Tokyo’s Taito Ward, a neighborhood historically known for its textile and leather artisans. The brand carries on this tradition by seeking to keep this local craftsmanship alive through meticulous and functional production. Before becoming a brand, HI-CONDITION first evolved as a creative hub and gallery, where artists and designers exhibited works, clothing, and creations, including the brand’s own stencil art pieces.
This roll features a simple, utilitarian design, with a closure consisting of black elastic cords and metal grommets. The interior includes nine main compartments as well as a zippered pocket for small accessories, allowing you to store not only Japanese knives but also certain compact tools or maintenance items. The labels sewn onto the exterior and interior serve as a reminder of its roots in Asakusabashi.
In practice, this type of roll offers a flexible and practical solution for keeping knives grouped together and separated during transport. It is well-suited for on-the-go use or organized storage, but it does not replace rigid protection against impacts. It is recommended to use a saya or blade guard on each Japanese knife before placing it in a pouch, to protect both the blade and the fabric.
For maintenance, remove the knives and accessories before cleaning. Spot cleaning with a slightly damp cloth is recommended, followed by thorough air-drying before storage. Avoid placing wet blades inside to preserve the fabric and minimize risks associated with moisture.
