Mazaki-san is a relatively young blacksmith from Sanjo, but he is originally from the island of Hokkaido. Not knowing what to do with himself as a young man, he went to travel to Japan on his motorcycle. He stopped in Sanjo and was fascinated by the knife making and forging industry in the area. He decided he wanted to become a blacksmith, so he got an apprenticeship with Yoshikane. He spent about 5 years working at Yoshikane, but decided he would like to pursue a more traditional and practical way of making knives. Now he forging-welding all his carbon steel knives internally and finishes his bevel with a variety of different sharpening stones, all by hand. At every step, he strives to be faithful to the profession.

Mazaki San prefers the more traditional Shirogami and Aogami to make its knives, and leaves a rustic finish on several of its blades. Shirogami is quite feasible for the blacksmith, but is also capable of senseless sharpness and edge retention. His knives have a decidedly traditional look, while standing out from the crowd like his own creations.
